Replica Flamingo Wall Art

A legally and sustainably sourced flamingo is hard to come by, so I made my own. This taxidermy replica is made with real (dyed and pigmented) feathers, with cast and sculpted head, based on the pieces I made for David Bertka and NPH. Flamingos are pretty hard to source in the US for a few reasons-navigating legalities, an extremely long lifespan (moreso in captivity), and people wanting to protect their specimen sources. A variety of domestic waterfowl were used to make this, and the client requested a stylized character. I was also inspired very much by Elsa Schiaparelli’s surrealism, and the client’s location in Florida.
