Green Ringneck

The color green stands for many things-harmony, nature, rebirth, and prosperity.  Jade is revered for its strength, symbolic of gentleness and nourishment, the egg represents life, and parrots are omens of celebration and socializing. Ringneck parrots are especially affectionate and goofy! We may not think of this year as a green one, until we realize green is also a color of growth. So many used 2020 to counter insecurity with abundance. In this spirit, this piece was created to fundraise and support the community food efforts of @vikrainyc working with The Uptown Fridge and La Morada NYC. Not only have their hearty, delicious offerings ensured that people don’t go hungry, they’ve inspired many others to take action in their own communities! The bird is perched on an antique stand, and is a beautifully varied green-blue color, unique to birds in the transitional stage. It’s eyeing a removable jade egg. The colors shift under every light, such is the beauty of nature! The tail can be curled, or left straight. During a time where so much feels uncertain, we can find some solace in the beauty and protection of nature.
